“Gomorrah Burns was one of the first tracks I fully formed after finishing Banach Tarski and moving into my tiny Raleigh apartment. The nature of the new space meant quiet creativity: no recording loud guitar cabs, bass amps, or screaming vocals, all of which I had grown accustomed to. These restraints, in addition to my desire to create something very different stylistically from my record with Gabe, led to a track crafted almost entirely “in the box.” Drum samples and synthesizers form the majority of the tune, completed with DI guitar pitched into the bass register, and soft, falsetto vocal harmonies. These tools and techniques are not entirely foreign to me, but Gomorrah Burns represents a personal exploration into largely new territory.
I anticipated this song would find a home within a larger project, and it still one day might. However, given the current trajectory of my music-making, I feel it will be a while before a project in that realm develops, so I wanted to show this song the light of day, rather than seclude it any longer in the dark depths of Dropbox.”
